How much does opening a slammed door cost in Casablanca?
- Expect 200 to 450 DH during the day for a door that is simply slammed shut and opened without drilling. A door locked with a key takes more work and runs from 350 to 800 DH, with the cylinder replacement billed separately. At night and on public holidays a surcharge of 300 to 700 DH applies, announced before the callout.
Will the locksmith damage my door?
- Not as a first resort. A slammed door is almost always opened with a non-destructive method — a shim, an X-ray card or picking — leaving the lock and the frame intact. Drilling the cylinder is only considered when the door is double-locked or the mechanism is jammed, and only after explaining to you why and at what price.
Do locksmiths work at night and on public holidays?
- Yes. Door opening is a typically nocturnal emergency and it is covered evenings and weekends in Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech and Tanger. You book in the app, you watch the locksmith arrive, and the night surcharge is shown before dispatch. If the door only needs securing, a temporary fix can be carried out the same evening.
Do I have to prove that I live there?
- Yes, and it is a normal safety rule. The locksmith will ask for an ID document, a proof of address, a tenancy agreement or a letter in your name, before or just after the opening. If you cannot produce anything at that moment, a neighbour, the building caretaker or the managing agent can confirm that you live at the address.
Should I change the whole lock or only the cylinder?
- If the mechanism still works and only the keys are the problem — keys lost, an outgoing tenant, a drilled cylinder — replacing the cylinder alone is enough and costs 250 to 700 DH. A full change is needed when the lock is seized or torn off, or when you upgrade to a multipoint lock on a reinforced door.
